Fordham University Church: Altarpiece

Main Altarpiece, Fordham University Church

During the restoration of the Fordham University Church in 1942, Hildreth Meière painted this main altarpiece. Every figure in the work pertains to a specific aspect of the university, including Fordham’s motto Sapientia et Doctrina, for which Meière presented “holy men and women from East and West who are role models for students in the pursuit of wisdom and learning.”

In the center of the piece, is Our Lady Mediatrix of All Graces, patroness of the University Church.
